Seedling Nutmeg

Seedling Nutmeg, botanically known as Myristica fragrans, is a valuable tropical spice plant cultivated for its two important products—nutmeg (seed) and mace (outer covering). These spices are widely used in cooking, medicine, and the food industry for their rich aroma and flavor.

The plant grows into a large, evergreen tree with dense foliage and thrives in warm, humid climates. It is commonly grown in regions like Kerala, Karnataka, and other tropical areas.

Being a seedling plant, it may take longer to start fruiting (usually 6–8 years) and the gender (male or female) cannot be identified at an early stage. Only female trees produce fruits, so multiple plants are often grown to ensure fruiting.

Nutmeg requires partial shade during early growth and prefers well-drained, fertile soil with regular moisture. Once established, it becomes a long-living and productive tree.

This plant is ideal for farmers and growers looking for long-term spice cultivation and agroforestry systems.
